Worship Ministries
Worship
There are many opportunities to participate in the worship ministries of LHPC, the most important of which is attendance at one of the Sunday worship services. Two worship opportunities are offered each Sunday: 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. "Praise on High," the 9:00 a.m. service, is a contemporary worship service that offers musical and vocal opportunities within our praise and worship band. The 11:00 a.m. service is a more formal one that includes responses and choral music. A nursery is provided for children under five during all three services. Special worship services are also held on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, and Easter.
Communion
The Sacrament of Holy Communion at LHPC is an open communion. This means that all baptized believers are invited to the Lord’s Table. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is generally celebrated on the first Sunday of each month during the Festival Days of the Christian calendar at both the 9:00 a.m. and the 11:00 a.m. services.
Other Ways to Serve
Other ways to serve in the worship ministry are by volunteering as a liturgist or lector, usher or acolyte:
Liturgists and lectors serve by reading scripture and assisting in the leadership of the service. Ushers and greeters serve by welcoming visitors, distributing bulletins and offering as needed assistance to the congregation. LHPC's children serve as acolytes on special occasions at our 11AM service, bringing the light of Christ into and out of the service. If you are interested in serving as a lector, usher or acolyte, please contact the Worship Chair.
Music Ministries
There are many opportunities to serve in the music ministries of LHPC.
The Chancel Choir is seated at the 11:00 a.m. worship service and helps to lead worship through song. The Praise Band is the ensemble that leads the music for Praise On High at the 9:00 a.m. service. There are many opportunities for musicians, both vocal and instrumental, either to accompany the Chancel choir or provide special music for worship services.
If you are interested in participating in any portion of the LHPC music ministries, please contact Peyton Strouth, Director of Music and Worship.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is a volunteer choral ensemble that provides musical leadership for our 11:00 a.m. worship service. They sing service music and anthems and help to lead the congregation in the singing of hymns. Currently this choir is performing larger choral works during Advent and Lent and are working to expand to a fall and spring concert of favorite anthems as well! This group currently includes approximately 25 members and is always looking for new voices.
Praise Band
The Praise Band is an auditioned group that provides musical leadership for the 9:00 a.m. worship service, Praise on High. This group leads worship with current contemporary music, creatively incorporating hymns and classic praise songs. Currently with six members, we are always looking for new people.
Chancel Choir
Our Chancel Handbell group provides special music several times a year to enhance the worship experience at LHPC. We lead worship though a variety of music, both classical and contemporary. Although playing Handbells looks tough, you dont have to be a musician to participate. Handbells provides an opportunity to learn to read music or sharpen your skills if you already know how to read. The group currently numbers about 10 members and we are in need of a few more ringers.
If you are interested in joining the Chancel Choir, in auditioning for the Praise Band or in being a part of the Chancel Handbell group, please contact Peyton Strouth, Director of Music and Worship.
