Worship Ministries
Worship
There are many opportunities to participate in the worship ministries of LHPC, the most important of which is attendance at one of the Sunday worship services. Two worship opportunities are offered each Sunday: 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. "Praise on High," the 9:00 a.m. service, is a contemporary worship service that offers musical and vocal opportunities within our praise and worship band. The 11:00 a.m. service is a more formal one that includes responses and choral music. A nursery is provided for children under five during all three services. Special worship services are also held on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, and Easter.
Children in the Chancel
The 11:00 a.m. service includes a special childrens time during which the children gather at the chancel for a short lesson. Even though the lesson is geared toward the youngest of the congregation, it is for the entire congregation. Sometimes lessons are easier to understand when seen through the eyes of a child.
Childrens Church
Childrens Church is offered for those from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Following "Children in the Chancel," which is a part of the 11:00 a.m. service, the youngest members of the congregation are invited to go to the Education Center for Childrens Church. This program focuses on giving children a better understanding of the various parts of the services held in "Big Church." They are given the opportunity to learn such things as the words to hymns, the Lords Prayer, and the Doxology and they are encouraged to ask questions about the reasons for the various parts of the service so that they will gain a better understanding.
Communion
The Sacrament of Holy Communion at LHPC is an open communion. This means that all believers are invited to the Lords Table. It is the tradition of LHPC that elders serve persons seated at the aisles. These persons then serve the people seated next to them, thereby symbolizing that we are Gods priests to each other. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month during the Festival Days of the Christian calendar Christian calendar at the 9:00 a.m. and the 11:00 a.m. services.
Lay Readers (Lectors)
Scripture is read at the 11:00 a.m. worship service by lay readers. Lay readers are volunteers from the congregation who serve on a rotating basis. If you are interested in serving as a lay reader, please contact the lay reader coordinator.
Ushers
The ushers are usually the first people to greet visitors as they arrive at LHPC for worship. In addition, the ushers distribute bulletins and provide assistance to those in attendance as needed. If you are interested in serving as an usher, please contact the head usher.
Acolytes
The children of LHPC serve as acolytes during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. The acolytes bring in the light of Christ at the beginning of the service and take out the light of Christ at the end of the service. If your child is interested in serving as an acolyte, please contact the acolyte coordinator.
Music Ministries
There are many opportunities to serve in the music ministries of LHPC.
The Chancel Choir is seated at the 11:00 a.m. worship service and helps to lead worship through song. The Praise Band is the ensemble that leads the music for Praise On High at the 9:00 a.m. service. The Handbell Choir rings a three-octave set of bells and periodically rings during the worship services. There are many opportunities for musicians, both vocal and instrumental, either to accompany the Chancel choir or provide special music for worship services.
If you are interested in participating in any portion of the LHPC music ministries, please contact Peyton Strouth, Director of Music Ministries.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is a volunteer choral ensemble that provides musical leadership for our 11:00 a.m. worship service. They sing service music and anthems and help to lead the congregation in the singing of hymns. Currently this choir is performing larger choral works during Advent and Lent and are working to expand to a fall and spring concert of favorite anthems as well! This group currently includes approximately 25 members and is always looking for new voices.
Praise Band
The Praise Band is an auditioned group that provides musical leadership for the 9:00 a.m. worship service, Praise on High. This group leads worship with current contemporary music, creatively incorporating hymns and classic praise songs. Currently with six members, we are always looking for new people.
Chancel Choir
Our Chancel Handbell group provides special music several times a year to enhance the worship experience at LHPC. We lead worship though a variety of music, both classical and contemporary. Although playing Handbells looks tough, you dont have to be a musician to participate. Handbells provides an opportunity to learn to read music or sharpen your skills if you already know how to read. The group currently numbers about 10 members and we are in need of a few more ringers.
If you are interested in joining the Chancel Choir, in auditioning for the Praise Band or in being a part of the Chancel Handbell group, please contact Peyton Strouth, Director of Music Ministries.
