C. Peyton Strouth comes to us from Virginia where he previously served various congregations as Minister of Music, most recently at Cave Spring United Methodist in Roanoke. He is currently enrolled in the Sacred Music program studying choral conducting at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Peyton has been involved in church music his entire life. Having grown up in a family of Assemblies of God Ministers, Peyton has been active in church, leading worship since high school when he began working with the choir and leading congregational singing. He lists his grandmother, who was a church minister and church musician, as one of the first musical influences in his life! "She and my mother are the ones who taught me to sing and let me start singing during worship when I was about six years old."
His musical tastes are varied and have led him from serving as featured soloist on European choir tours to keyboardist in a country band, and everything in between. Peytons greatest interest is in helping people experience God through music and song, whether in a choir, a praise band, or a congregation. The song is one of the greatest gifts from above, a way in which each individual can praise God. Peyton feels that although each voice is different and each song is sung for different reasons, there is great power when music is experienced together in community.
