Stewardship and Finance

Have you ever wondered where your dollars go?  Who controls what gets spent and how it's spent?  These are all good questions and ones for which answers are certainly due!

Each year you are asked to search your hearts and your faith and to decide what you and the Lord think is best for you, your family and God's work.  But then what happens?  You know, of course, that the outcome is a mass of dollars and cents figures designated as amounts committed, amounts actually given and amounts spent.  Your generosity is initially recorded by the Financial Secretary who maintains confidential records on each member's amount as well as actual giving.  You see evidence of that each quarter when you receive your quarterly statement of giving and again after yearend when you receive your final statement, for tax purposes.  The person who serves as Financial Secretary is always chosen with a great deal of care and consideration for the confidential discretion of that person.

But then what happens?  One of the sessional committees is Stewardship and Finance, which consists of a chair, the Treasurer, the Financial Secretary, two elders currently serving on session, and as many volunteers from the congregation as wish to serve on this all important committee.  Anyone is welcome.

Stewardship and Finance meets monthly on the Sunday before the stated Session meeting which is set for the third Monday of each month.  The income of the church as well as the expenditures of the church all fall under the guidance of the Stewardship and Finance Committee.  The committee is largely responsible for planning for fund raising and for the contributions made by the church to our various benevolences.  It is also their responsibility to monitor the various funds of the church, to monitor the expenditures of committees and staff, and to provide for an annual financial review (audit) of all accounts.
