The Mission activities of a church are the heart of the church's identity as followers of Christ. We are to love God and one another, and what we do for others exhibits both our love for God as well as our love for neighbor.
Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church supports many mission activities; a significant portion of our Mission budget currently goes to support presbytery and denominational needs and mission work. As LHPC looks to the future, we plan to expand our mission giving and outreach in the coming years.
Our largest commitment to mission is the LHPC Child Development Center, located within the church, which serves over 100 children in year round care, operating both full time and afterschool programs.
Other Mission projects that involve "hands on" work from LHPC volunteers include:
Austin Street Shelter (sandwich ministry), Cumberland and Presbyterian Children's Homes, Grace Presbyterian Village, LHPC's Annual Arts Camp, LifeNet Mental Health Services, Meals on Wheels, Parkland Hospital, Texas Youth Commission, Veteran's Hospital, White Rock Center of Hope.
In addition, we view our building as a resource to be shared with our community; we regularly host and support a variety of groups within our building on a continuing basis:
Boy Scout Troop/Cub Scout Pack 435, Christian Fellowship Ministries International, Family Outreach Dallas, Financial Peace University classes, Iglesia Cristiana and Recovery Inc.
In 2009, LHPC extended its commitment to Mission in our community by launching two new and exciting mission projects: LHPC's Project GIFT, and Living Waters' Clean Water University.
Project GIFT, a program operated in conjunction with the LHPC Child Development Center, provides scholarships for up to a dozen children from local families whose parents might not otherwise be able to afford excellent after school programming for their children. At least a dozen volunteers from the church and community partner with the staff of the CDC to give the children enrolled the extra care they need.
LHPC Men's Fellowship group began a partnership with Clean Water University, a division of Living Waters for the World. Living Waters for the World trains and equips mission teams to share the gift of clean water with communities in need in the United States and around the world. This year volunteers from LHPC and Men's Fellowship will participate in funding, training and implementing "clean water" projects where they are most needed.
All of these mission activities allow us the chance to be Christ's hands and feet to others both near and far.
